Inner Realms

A Therapeutic Tabletop Roleplaying Program

Our Mission

Inner Realms uses collaborative tabletop roleplaying games to create meaningful experiences where participants can practice resilience, communication, emotional flexibility, and values-based decision-making.

Rather than talking about difficult situations, participants experience them together through collaborative storytelling, allowing therapeutic growth to emerge naturally through play.

Our Philosophy

Stories allow us to safely practice being the people we hope to become, or to explore people we hope to understand better.

Every adventure presents opportunities to face uncertainty, recover from setbacks, work through conflict, make difficult decisions, and discover what truly matters.

The game is not separate from therapy—it is the medium through which therapy occurs.

Participants leave having played a memorable campaign while also strengthening skills that extend beyond the table.

What Makes Inner Realms Different?

Inner Realms is not simply "Dungeons & Dragons in therapy."

Each campaign is intentionally designed by a therapist to create opportunities for:

  • emotional flexibility

  • teamwork

  • communication

  • distress tolerance

  • leadership

  • creative problem solving

  • identity exploration

  • values-based action

Every challenge serves both the story and the therapeutic goals.

Campaign Philosophy

Each group is a complete campaign and every campaign has a beginning, a middle, and an ending

Players become invested in a world, its people, and one another before bringing the story to a meaningful conclusion.

Rather than endless progression, every campaign offers a complete narrative arc where characters—and players—have the opportunity to grow.

The Role of Challenge

Failure is part of every good story.

Characters will face setbacks.

Plans may fail.

Friends may disagree.

Difficult decisions will need to be made.

These moments are not mistakes in the game.

They are opportunities to practice resilience, flexibility, and collaboration in a supportive environment.

What Participants Can Expect

Every session includes opportunities to:

  • solve mysteries

  • explore new places

  • overcome obstacles

  • build relationships

  • face meaningful choices

  • celebrate victories

  • recover from setbacks

  • reflect on what was learned

No previous tabletop roleplaying experience is required.
