Kayla's Story

Kayla earned her Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a
concentration in Addiction Studies from East Carolina University. Since then, she has
become an Autism Clinical Specialist and is currently working toward becoming a
Women’s Mental Health Specialist.

Kayla is passionate about creating a positive, collaborative, and judgment-free space
where clients feel safe showing up as their authentic selves. She believes therapy
should include honesty, genuineness, connection, and sometimes even humor.

She especially enjoys working with neurodivergent adolescents and adults navigating
Autism, emotional regulation difficulties, life transitions, and women’s health-related
concerns. As a neurodivergent counselor herself, Kayla understands the challenges of
functioning in a neurotypical world and the impact that can have on mental health and
self-esteem.

Kayla strives to bring authenticity, empathy, and a laid-back presence into sessions.
She enjoys connecting with clients through shared interests, including reading, puzzle
games, and her three dogs. Her passion for counseling is reflected in the strong,
trusting relationships she builds with clients.

Why work with an associate counselor?
As an associate counselor, Kayla brings fresh perspectives, creativity, and up-to-date
clinical training into her work with clients. She values continued learning and receives
ongoing clinical supervision to ensure thoughtful, high-quality care.
While completing her studies to become a counselor, Kayla worked as an in-home
support professional for Autistic young adults. This experience strengthened her
understanding of how to effectively support neurodivergent individuals while helping
clients build practical skills that improve daily functioning and overall quality of life.
